Bonifacio Memorial Elementary School has a unique location in the sense that one half of its site is owned by Caloocan City and the other half by Quezon City. Its first building was constructed by the Municipality of Caloocan City with the assistance of the provincial government of Rizal. It was a four – room concrete building that started its operation during 1926 – 1927.
In 1937, a law was passed by Congress creating Quezon City with specified boundaries. The boundary of the newly created Quezon City on the west side falls on the center of the school and right in the middle of the original four – room building thus dividing it into two portions: One half belonging to Caloocan and the other half to Quezon City. With such a compromising situation, an agreement was therefore made between the two cities that the school will be under the supervision and control of Quezon City government provided that some of the school children who are residents of Caloocan City will be accommodated. This set-up has been maintained to the present time.
The construction of Balintawak Novaliches Interchange Complex in 1972 had caused the demolition of some rented school buildings. Destruction was heavily felt when typhoon Welming devastated one of the oldest buildings in 1967. From the miserable situation arose the challenge to the administrators and teaching force to write and restore the old glory that was Bonifacio Memorial Elementary School. At present, an evidence of the challenge faced by the management could be seen and subsequently admired. Administrators who had the chance to be assigned here were all living witnesses to the impressive transformation of the school from its humble beginnings. Each had his share in making Bonifacio Memorial Elementary school what it is today.
